Grass, Koeleria macrantha

Koeleria macrantha, or Prairie Junegrass, is a cool season, clump-forming, tufted, perennial bunch grass that is native in Missouri, typically found in dry prairies and open woods in the southwestern and central parts of the state. It typically grows in a compact, erect clump with narrow tapered inflorescences appearing in late spring atop flower spikes rising well above the basal foliage. Inflorescences open light green but change to silver-green as the seed heads mature.

Grow in dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Thrives in rocky or gritty soils, and tolerates drought. Avoid wet and/or heavy soils or shade.
